My name is Merna & I live in Vinje, Iowa. I just turned 60 in September 2023 & looking forward to retirement. I work remotely in my field - #ILoveMyJob & feel so blessed every day. I lived on Pine Island, Florida from 2011 – 2022 – Hurricane Ian hit! I had to make some choices and the island was just devastated from all the damage. I moved back near my immediate family where I had lived previously in my life. (I lived on Sanibel Island in the 80s, back when it was much smaller and laid back.) I have Aunts, Uncles & cousins in Florida too. I have a huge family between Florida, Iowa, & Minnesota.
This was October 2022 and I had arranged to stay with my mom until I found a place, she is 84 years old now. My Father passed away in 2017 (left us all heartbroken of course). My mom had a serious car accident two months after I got here and between her age & her physical health, she cannot live alone any longer. We do our best to have a good, busy day here at home – inside where it’s WARM in the winter. LOL. I feel blessed to have this time with my mom, I am single and the only one who can do this. God always has a plan! I am happy to do this for my mom. She took care of my dad for many years & now it’s her turn.
Life is busy and I kinda work two jobs but feel blessed to have this time with her too! I have 12 nieces & nephews and 13 GREAT nieces & nephews too, so we always have kids around too. I came home to grow old with my family and enjoy every day here!
I have had the recipe sharing website since 2010 and only shared it with family & Friends. I am a complete computer geek, so I took it out this year and began updating it, etc. This is my hobby & would love to grow a small community online with people who love the same things. I love collecting Christmas recipes and trying many too. Bookmark (Ctrl + D) us today and follow us on Facebook & Instagram below. (Pssst I will eventually have a YouTube Channel so we can BAKE together! 😉 All in due time….)
I started baking in 6th or 7th grade. I started making mints and sheetcakes for my older siblings Confirmations & Graduations. It snow balled from there! I still have many of my original pans & more. Pics soon!
